MAYFLOWER AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

STUDENT LEADERSHIP AWARD AND SCHOLARSHIP

The Mayflower Area Chamber of Commerce wishes to recognize outstanding leadership in graduating high school seniors. The winner of the Leadership Award will be given a $600 post-secondary scholarship. The first and second runners-up will be awarded a $500 and $400 post-secondary scholarship respectively.

Applicant Criteria:

· Mayflower High School graduating senior.

· Grade point of 3.0 or higher, based on a 4.0 scale.

· Exhibits leadership qualities through school, community organizations or activities, employment, active volunteer experiences.

· Applying for admission to the 2008 fall term at any Arkansas college or technical school.

Application Procedures:

Applicant must submit the following:

a. A completed typed student application (see attached).

b. Two (only) letters of recommendations from a teacher, employer, non-profit organization supervisor, pastor or community leader.

c. The High School counselor will verify all applicant data concerning reported School/Community Clubs and Organizations, volunteer work, awards and employment.

d. Applications must be submitted through the High School Counselor or mailed to: Mayflower Area Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 284, Mayflower, AR 72106 and received by March 13, 2008.

Applications received after the March 13 deadline will not be considered.

Review and Selection Process:

a. The selection of the scholarship recipients will be based upon an evaluation of the completed applications and a personal interview of the top three (3) selections.

b. Scholarship applications will be reviewed by the Board of Directors of the

Mayflower Area Chamber of Commerce, which consists of community leaders, volunteers and business representatives.

Presentation of Scholarships:

a. Recipients will be awarded the scholarships at the Mayflower High School 2008 Awards Ceremony and will also be recognized at the Mayflower High School 2008 Graduation Ceremony.

b. Scholarships may be used for any college related expense, i.e., tuition, room & board, books, or fees etc. Scholarships must be used within five (5) years of acceptance.

c. Recipients must inform the Chamber of the choice of college or technical school. Scholarship monies will then be deposited at and dispersed by said college.
